ABOUT 365 Days/365 Plays

In November 2002, the Pulitzer prize-winning Suzan-Lori Parks sat down and committed to writing a play a day for the next 365 days. The world premiere of this play cycle was performed as a yearlong national festival simultaneously in major cities and communities around the country. The Public spearheaded the New York component of 365 Days/365 Plays by gathering together a widely diverse cross-section of over 75 New York theater companies to participate in this project.

Polybe + Seats brings 365 to Brooklyn, transforming a gallery, a church, a bar and a kitchen store into performance sites for the first seven plays of the new year. We also had a day of performances at the Public Theater in Manhattan. Audiences came to the location that struck their fancy, or came to all five.  We even provided the snacks.

At each of our five performances, we performed the seven plays that Suzan-Lori Parks wrote for Week 8: Here We Go; We Are Fresh Out of Canned Laughter, Get Some Off the Television; 2 Marys; The News is Here; The Star of India; The Birth of Tragedy; and Call Girl. What changed was the venue – and the snacks.

Wednesday, January 3rd @ 8pm
UnionDocs

What's more natural for an opening night than wine and cheese in a gallery?

Thursday, January 4th
Greenpoint Reformed Church

Situated in a gorgeous Victorian mansion off Greenpoint's main drag, the Greenpoint Reformed Church gives us a good feeling whenever we step inside. Their stained-glass-filled social hall was our home for the evening, and we hosted an ice-cream social after the show.

Friday, January 5th
Pete's Candy Store

We don't know about you, but when we're in Williamsburg, it's a pretty sure bet we'll stop by Pete's at some point. A real neighborhood watering hole and a great venue for music, comedy, and readings, Pete's Candy Store and Here We Go were a natural match. Afterwards, we set out snacks that go with beer. Think salty and crunchy.

Saturday, January 6th
The Brooklyn Kitchen

The Brooklyn Kitchen is our favorite place to feel like the proverbial kid in the candy store. Cooking, like theater, can feel like magic when it's done right, and then there are all those fabulous toys!

Sunday, January 7th
The Public Theater (Shiva Theater)

Participating in the First Sundays series event, alongside the companies performing weeks 4 through 7, marked Polybe + Seats' Off-Broadway debut.
